The Yamaha spins a stainless-steel prop, steering is made light via the Hydrive Series hydraulic steering and with an approx. 240L underfloor fuel tank, range is assured.

Powered by an upgraded, 23 hour old, 1.8l, 75Hp Yamaha EFI four stroke that sips a misery 1l of fuel approx. every 3km – providing exceptional range with the underfloor 70L fuel tank.

The 495 Workmate offers the user a highly capable, quality-built alloy boat under 5 meters that is highly capable to fish both inshore and offshore waters. Cleverly designed by boaters and anglers that have combined class-leading performance, ease of handling, a small storage footprint, and easily handled at the boat ramp solo.

Surtees webpage is quoted as stating “Safety comes as standard on the 495 Workmate with airtight pressure tested flotation compartments incorporated into the Tough Deck™ hull design. Surtees iQ™ technology is built into every square inch of the 495 Workmate, from a smooth, non-pounding ride to incredible stability at rest - you won’t find a smarter fishing boat for the size.”

With 2 adults aboard and the days gear, a standard 60Hp or 70Hp outboard with a small 1l engine capacity just wouldn’t cut it and he didn’t want a laboured and slow cruise at 18kn to 20kn with little power in reserve, so the motor was upgraded to a 75Hp Yamaha (detuned 90Hp) that is almost twice the capacity at a 1.8L engine.

Delivering exceptional performance, an under worked RPM rev range and cruises comfortably sipping approx. 1l for every 3k’s, now that’s exceptional fuel economy and offers great range with the underfloor 70L fuel tank.

The motor was also fitted with an Ultraflex hydraulic steering system upgrade, a Yamaha CL5 MFG engine gauge and has only recorded a low 23 hours of use since new. Further backed with buyers reassurance of engine factory warranty remaining to July 2028.

As pictured, the owner also did not want the large and cumbersome driver and passenger bucket seating that robs the cockpit of valuable space. Rather optioned the factory installed fold away side seats with squabs.

The helm is functional and fitted with an array of quality electronics including the Furuno FCV 600 colour screen fish finder, a Garmin Echomap UHD2 95sv touch screen combo sounder/GPS. The Furuno is linked to an Airmar P66 transducer and the Garmin to the 3:1 style transducer.

Anchoring is made easy as the boat was upgraded with a 12v LSM GX1 drum winch and fitted to a #2 Sarca anchor. Detail abounds as the chain is housed inside a sock and even a safety drop cable made to attach to ensure the anchor is secured when underway. A Garmin VHF radio is installed for on water communications and safety.

Overhead, a quality fabricated bimini top is installed along with front and side clear curtains. Check out the clever design feature of the side curtains as they can wrap back in the cabin side to free up space along the cockpit coaming. Further a crabbing apron has also been fabricated to slide into a receiver on the starboard coaming to protect the side of the boat from scratching when pulling the pots up alongside.

If storage height is a concern, the bimini can fold down out of the way and the windscreen can fold back on itself, reducing the total height considerably.

The cockpit and transom area is so well thought out, from a plumbed live bait tank, well engineered dual battery storage hold and switching, quality bait prep table with storage and inserts for knives and lures and the like, saltwater deck wash, underfloor kill tank, 16 fishing rod holders throughout… to a well designed transom ladder.

With a horsepower rating some 12.5% more than its nearest competitor, due to a stronger transom and heavier hull that offers better seakeeping and stability at rest. If the weather turns, be reassured with a class leading 200L fuel tank to provide range and reduce fuel anxiety.

Plus in windy/rainy conditions the full width windscreen that seals to the hard top. No need to worry about saltwater running though flimsy front plastic clears/zips down onto your expensive dash electronics!
