The team at J.C.M are always on the lookout for affordable family trailer sailors that offer the budget conscious boatie value and this Northwind 7 certainly does that! Purchase this rig for $9,995 with the current trailer unregistered or for $16,995 sitting atop a brand new custom made tandem trailer!
Our Dealership is located just 15 minutes east of Brisbane CBD and 2k’s south of the Gateway.
This Northwind 7 (later known as a Sonata 7) is a 23’ fiberglass trailer-able yacht that can sleep 4 persons comfortably for an overnighter or simply be a wonderful day boat to get out on the water and enjoy some sailing with friends.
Two price options have been established, for those that wish to use the current trailer as an unregistered ramp trailer you could enjoy the convenience of joining and store “Clays mate” at the local boat house / boat club saving the costs associated with owning a large tow vehicle?
Or, you could own this hull and accessories and have her trailered on a brand new tandem axle trailer allowing you to tow on the road and head off exploring some of our further afield waterways for $16,995.
Northwind’s are a simple boat to sail for the beginner and further below we outline the boats features and accessories in detail. As with most TS’s they are older mix of craft, but like this one, you can still find a well maintained and loved one.
The Northwind hull has an interesting history being first built as a Southern Cross, then change of ownership they became a Northwind 7 when then on sold again to become a Sonata 7…. All in all whichever of the three “makes” you own, they are all great 7m boats and very capable sailing boats!
One great feature is that they have a relatively flat bottom which helps if you want to beach them or the tide drops out from under you that the boats don’t list over too much. With the keel up the hull only draws approx. 25cm! Another feature is that the pop top allows great head room for tall folk and opens up the cabin to allow more ventilation and light inside and best of all the boat can be sailed whilst the pop top is up.
If the wind drops out, the boat can be powered by the Tohatsu 8Hp long shaft motor. This has a 25l fuel tank offering plenty of range if needed and the 8Hp will generate a good turn of speed.
Most of the sailing has been with a main and the genoa and all are in workable condition. The keel is electrically motorised via a cable for ease of pressing a button. The cabin as pictured is comfortable and well laid out with the creature comforts one wants for an overnighter and the galley is well equipped with lighting, a stove, sink with approx. 60l freshwater storage aboard and plenty of storage is offered for the rations and crockery.
The rig can be stored out of the water on the tandem axle trailer, please note the $9,995 price is the pictured trailer, offered to the market unregistered. Or $16,995 tow away on a brand-new tandem trailer allowing 4 weeks from order for the trailer to be manufactured.
Finding good quality 7m or 23’ swing keel sail boats is getting harder to find year on year, secure your affordable boating enjoyment with the Northwind 7 and get out there this coming summer.
Due to the second-hand nature of the rig, accessories, hull, fittings and sails- are sold in AS IS condition. No warranty is implied nor given. The purchaser is to familiarise themselves as to the 'fit for their purpose' and or rely on a surveyor at their cost for hull condition. No 'On Water Demonstrations' are offered on trailer sailors. The advertised price includes condition reports on the motor and trailer, PPSR title search and certificates, BIA 50/50 engine warranty, workshop pre-delivery inc dropping of mast/boat wash and handover. JCM can also assist in arranging boat transportation to mainland Australia.
